The people who should have been punished got away with crimes against humanity. But none of their descendants are guilty of these crimes.

Guilty has nothing to do with repayment now. The government is guilty. That same government under the same constitution, exists today.

If the government can pay farmers reparations, then they can pay Jim Crow survivors reparations.

How much to make the wrongs right?

The legal issue of course. It is the only power granted to the state by the people. There’s no way they could have legally punished the slavers.

The question is how we move keep moving forward from what happened.
