I cannot believe people on here are actually saying censorship is OK.
I wondered if they would when I started this thread.

The people on here are saying that censorship is a part of daily life. You have the right to speak, but you don’t have the right to use other people’s property to express your speech. As long as you’re on your own property, or public property, your freedom of speech cannot be abridged. However, you cannot, for example, force a newspaper to print your speech, in the form of an op-ed article, if they choose not to.
You get this. You’re a smart cookie.
I support some forms of discrimination, as we all do in one form or another. To take an extreme example, if someone wanted to show pornography on Saturday morning TV, or on Twitter or Facebook, in order to make some odd political statement, I’m sure that many would oppose the idea.
Aside from that, the marketplace of ideas concept, in which ridiculous ideas will surely be exposed and die away under the weight of their own lies, has clearly failed.
Private entities have the right to eliminate the ridiculous.
No shirt, no shoes, no service.
No sanity, no truth, no twitter platform.
Censorship is as American as apple pie, baseball, and skyrocketing approval ratings for any president when he starts any war for any reason.
I newspaper is not accessible to billions of people all over the globe, newspapers are biased, newspapers do not limit subscription based on ideology.
as a right wing extremist, a thread I started, I believe in private choice.
however, we are dealing with Russian meddling and other issues on social media. It is a new median and there should be some discussion on private censorship on public forums on a discrimination basis.
what would happen if tv stations refused democratic political adds? or networks?
not even close
Bootz, if your fence is high enough, you can mow your lawn naked while shouting every profanity known to humanity if it pleases you. Aside from a neighbor or two closing their windows, I doubt anyone will mind.
You are the king of your own backyard. No censorship shall enter that rickety gate.
If that isn’t inspirational, then I don’t know how to help you, because I just filled myself with the American spirit.
You could also say, you have a right to speech, but you don’t have a right to make others listen.
are you ok with government censorship or government run news.
Not even close to what?
Can you watch porn on CBS?
If you shout profanity in the local grocery store for 45 minutes straight, will they just shrug you off and wonder why the store is empty?
If you print lies about the sexual proclivities of your neighbor, and he sues you, will you tell the judge that a judgment against you is censorship, and therefore unAmerican?
If a privately owned website removes a popular rightwing kook from its site for publishing material that it deems harmful to that website’s profitability, will you come onto this forum and complain about it for days, weeks, or years?
Well, I went too far, because you’ll answer that last question in the affirmative for some odd reason.
Censorship is essential to what America is. Don’t forget that our country was founded by the religious.
In order:
Yes.
No.
Those are your answers to those questions, too.
Somehow I doubt you’d be starting these threads if Facebook had banned ANTIFA.
Actually, you need to do a comparison with political speech on the town square.
none of those limitations on freedom you describe, should be selectively enforced.
how about if we say the grocery store limits who they let in?
Libel is not protected speech.
if you choose profitability as an arbiter, then can people discriminate on who buys property in a neighborhood?
is porn banned from the internet?
not even close
this is all about the Obama speech.
but since you brought it up why not ban Antifa and blm? that would be ok with you?
So take your business off those websites. It not really a hard concept you know. You dam dirty far-left nutjobs want to regulate every dam free market know to man. Keep your dam liberal hands off the private companies.
that must be good stuff you are smoking, cancer patient I presume
So a private baker should be allowed to decide if he/she chooses not to bake a cake?
Here’s the question? Why should discrimination be tolerated by a business discriminating against something legal? Is it not expected that everyone is to be treated equally?
It’s not expected. You’re free to discriminate based on everything but certain protected factors. And even then, that’s only if you’re open to the public.
If they had banned ANTIFA, at least they’d be consistent. Wonder why one supposedly violates their TOS but the other doesn’t? Yeah, it’s a real mystery.
It’s animal farm. Everyone is equal. It’s just that some are more equal than others.
