You had one that wrote his own immigration,laws with a pen and a phone when congress didn’t pass what he told them to.
You had one that refused to honor his oath do defend our borders or enforce our laws, but decided unilaterally to give free handouts to the students who made up his constituency.
I’d say Trump is doing fine compared to,that lot.

They were already expanding the war in 1962 and 1963, sending more and more advisors every month and they started participating in combat operations alongside the ARVN forces they were training. That would have continued and expanded once the military determined they would need to directly intervene with conventional forces. These things take on a life of their own after awhile.
Johnson ultimately had other ambitions (the Great Society was his real passion) but he trusted the defense establishment’s conclusion that the only way to stop North Vietnam was the insertion of large numbers of conventional US forces.
It was a terrible mistake on his part, since the expansion of the Vietnam War would ultimately kill his political ambitions for the future and he is lucky congress went along with the Great Society in 1968.

The so called Gulf of Tonkin “atteack” was a lie by LBJ used as an excuse to expand the war.
Most think he profited from the war.

Although I am required by my race to give him credit for signing the Civil Rights Act, even if his heart wasn’t really into it. He did it for political reasons.
