You misunderstand. It’s just you.

Thank you.

That’s not what they want but in countries with much larger populations it can’t help but turn into something like the USSR or North Korea because after the money runs out, and nobody wants to work they have to be forced to work to feed the machine.
The labor market problems happening right now offer a hint of how bad things would be under “democratic socialism” in this country. Freebies for hundreds of millions is much different than freebies for 5-10 million. Somebody has to work, to produce things to buy. We can be given all the money in the world but what will we buy with it if nobody works in places that produce?
With what has happened to the labor market I’m afraid we are going to be seeing even more shortages of skilled workers, food, etc. unless the freebies stop now AND the companies start paying their workers more rather than CEO’s. I blame both the corporations and governments for this problem.

Do we see this type of widespread behavior in our Western Allies with more robust social safety nets than us?

Marcuse.

Am I correct in recalling that you don’t consider yourself a libertarian or conservative?

Democratic Socialists do not want to create an authoritarian state.

Democratic Socialists do not want to create an authoritarian state.

I’m seeing the lack of workers right here, right now. Ford announced they are opening a battery factory 10 miles down the road from me but I have no idea where they will get the workers. Maybe it will be staffed with Mexicans and Haitians who are tickled with minimum wage? With the stimmies and “robust” unemployment millions of workers tapped out to stay home and binge on Netflix or play video games. With the advanced child tax credit gimmies a lot of baby mamas left the work force.
I qualified my statement by saying countries with much larger populations. I think Germany is the closest Western ally and they only have about 1/4 the population; the UK has about 1/5 the population. Where do very large countries like China and India rate on the freedom index?

That may not be their intention in the beginning but what about when they receive a notification that the free money is running out? Do you not think the Bernie bros would love to subjugate “non-vaxxers” or “Trumpers” to work more hours to supply them with more freebies so they can focus on Call of Duty?

Unemployment ran out on Labor Day. No longer can be used for an excuse to explain away the labor shortage.

Is this a condemnation of having a child tax credit or having the tax credit paid out monthly instead of in the tax return?

Germany has a more robust social safety net than us and has 3.6% unemployment. If the idea that a more robust social safety net leads to people staying at home you should see it there.

The UK has a labor shortage of their own making right now.

No one is advocating that we emulate those countries.

The unemployment ran out but the workers haven’t returned. It will probably take months for us to return to decent levels of production. I guess we’ll just have to wait and see what it will be like because it’s coming here. I have no idea how the entitled will be incentivized to work.

Money ran out a month ago and the labor shortage hasn’t abated at all, and I’m intimately involved in the process. If anything it’s worse now.

We are sitting at 5.2 % unemployment. That is getting into the normal churn of the workforce.

Hard to blame that people are “entitled”… maybe if they got paid more for those jobs… or were offered long term security and benefits instead of being treated as replaceable economic units they might go and work for those people.

There has been a labor shortage in my area of work for years now… and we get paid fairly well. The hours usually seriously suck… but we at least get paid.

Sounds to me like poor parenting…

Yeah, in my business it’s not that we were generally paying people less than they did in the 90s adjusted for inflation, it’s because they were getting five hundred bucks a week in unemployment instead of two.

Well, a part of me is kind of glad the workers are saying ■■■■ you to corporations that pay their workers ■■■■ but give their CEO’s millions in bonuses each year. I have zero sympathy for the large corporations.

I unfortunately agree.

I would put more stock in that then Marxist!

But that’s just me…

Sounds like your issue isn’t with Democratic Socialism, but with welfare.

With socialism the money that was profit can instead be reinvested in the company and allow higher paychecks for the workers.
