I certainly wouldn’t go that far but they could easily give up 2/3 or more of the federal lands in the west in a new “land rush” and we’d reap an immeasurable economic benefit from same.

Additionally the tax revenues generated could pretty well wipe out our national debt.

Once federalized there is no tax revenues from that land for local, state, or federal gov’ts and the economic activity on said lands is dramatically minimized or ended completely depending on how such lands are designated.

Last time I owned a home the real estate taxes in my county were fairly reasonable (compared to other states, esp. up north). The majority went to the school system, which was near the top in my state. I didn’t complain that much.

When I bought my house the estimated taxes were 50% higher than comparable properties. I mentioned this on a golf trip and one of the guys at my club happened to be a real estate attorney. He got my information and filed an appeal to the assessment. Got my taxes reduced - considerably. Now they’re in-line with the other properties. People just don’t know how it easy it is to file an appeal and challenge them.

I had it done for free too. It’s nice knowing people.

There are vast areas in the west with undeveloped private land because the demand and infrastructure is not there. The Southwest is harsh and the land that is desirable is developed, or a national park. You are clueless.

I’m happy to admit I haven’t done my own taxes since 87-88, I pay accountants and a tax attorney to handle the small stuff.

I’m just glad you didn’t miss out on that deduction out of ignorance all these years. I hope your accountant informs you that the GOP has capped that deduction at $10,000 going forward.

No, at one time you could deduct your state income taxes. Property taxes were never deductible on your federal taxes.
