Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi escalated her contentious relationship with the White House Wednesday; claiming Congress is the “superior branch” of the US government compared to the executive branch.

“I think we’re a superior branch, quite frankly,” Pelosi said. “We have the power to make the law and the president enforces the law. So we have a big role. We’re closest to the people and we have a big role to play.”

Pelosi’s comments ignore the actual text of the US Constitution, which declares the government’s three branches as “separate but equal” to ensure a system of checks and balances to prevent tyranny.

Pelosi’s comments come as President Trump asserted his “executive privilege” regarding Robert Mueller’s final report; effectively blocking the unredacted material from Congressional lawmakers should they subpoena the documents.
