It was what Biden needed. I said it was not what Harris needed.
Harris is not running for 2020 VP. She is running for President 2024, win or lose in 2020. If Trump somehow pulls this year out, Harris needs to convince the DNC she is the right choice for 2024. Starting now.
What do we think is going to happen in 2021-24? You think the virus is going to be “solved”? I don’t. The fatality rate will continue to slow and the incumbent will tout that, but new cases will still be high. Ebb and flow. Governors will continue to “open up” and we will see spikes. Flu season will hit every year and the comorbidity will kill.
Eventually people will drift back in to risk tolerant behavior. And then we will have the next crisis while we are still fighting this one.
What is the economy going to look like? Better, until it gets closed again because of panic. And cities such as NYC will lead the charge, fueling the media. We will continue to prop it up with debt as we have been doing, no choice. Which means more and more people will stop looking for work. Manufacturing jobs will continue to drift overseas.
And while all this is going on, we will have dems trying to remake the country green, further sickening an already dying patient.
Dems focus on social issues, not jobs. And they aren’t good at the root causes of social issues.
Another cop will kill another minority and the riots will crank back up, but worse.
The time for “healing” is not now, you heal after you’ve won the fight. The fight is still ongoing. And the dems aren’t focused on winning the fight.
What we’re going to see is that Biden cannot “manage” Covid any better than Trump did. Because it can’t be “managed” by any President and the central government is already doing everything it can.
They already backed off the “federal mask mandate”. Biden has openly stated he will “shut it down” again if the lab coats tell him to. We may find out, but if he does, what will happen?
They will try to blame Trump for years, but that will only work with the base. If Biden wins and shuts the country down again, it instantly becomes his. He will have to raise taxes on the middle class, what happens then?
How long will the country put up with civil unrest at the levels (or higher) that we saw this year?
And then 2024 will come. We will have higher taxes, green regulations stifling recovery, millions more on welfare and burning and looting in the streets. Illegals flooding into the country and people paying them because there is no reason not to.
The ressentiment may (will) shift sides, but it will grow.
Whoever is President in 2021 cannot focus on COVID to the exclusion of the economy. The schwerpunkt (critical point of the battle) is already moving from the former to the latter. We are already adapting to living with the virus. We will not learn to live with no jobs and still prosper. And when we don’t prosper, we get pissed.
You can count on being told we need to social distance and wear cloth face coverings for the next 5 years minimum. OSHA regulations will be written requiring things that will cost companies billions of dollars, while they are fighting to keep the doors open.
We won’t be going “back to normal”. The country, not the government, is going to have to figure out how we balance the situation we do have. We’re going to have to go back to the basics, not go green.
We have to start building it back before we can build it back better. And the government can’t do it and sustain it. Dems like government mandates, that won’t work here. We’re going to have to tolerate some risk.
“America needs a nap”? No. America needs to get to work. But that probably won’t happen.
