Locking your home is not a deterrent. You must lock up your guns just in case a criminal breaks in to steal and use them.
When a criminal breaks into your home and steals your guns and uses them in a crime, you have to prove that you met some kind of standards so you can be investigated and liable if you don’t meet them.
How about just keep it simple?
Don’t break into a house. Don’t steal from that house or the blame and consequences are 100% on the criminal.

Where is the criminal breaking into your house and stealing it?

Yeah. Lock your house up when you leave like most people do.

The repeated assertion in this thread is that the gun was not stored safely in the house.
Until those making this allegation can demonstrate that they haven’t made up their assertion, nobody needs to address it. If you attempt to answer that allegation, you give legitimacy to the straw man.

I highly doubt that refers to criminals breaking into your home. After all, if they are willing to break into your home why not break into your secure gun safe.

My assertion is that criminals broke into a home.
After that threshold is broken any crimes are on the criminals not the homeowner.

What else would it mean???
If someone breaks into your well secured, operable safe, and it can be proven it was secured properly. I would assume you woukdn’t be held liable.

There is no legitimacy to their straw man.
Criminals are not victims no matter how much the lefties want it to be so.
Again…if someone trespasses on your land and gets injured or drowns in your pool…you are held responsible if its not up to code. You own the home and are responsible…

I can think of a hundred scenarios.
My neighbors stop over all of the time. It isn’t expected but they are always welcome.

Actually, that’s the fact of the matter. Not merely an assertion.
This is the assertion on your part.
Libs are counter-asserting that the guns were not safely stored in an attempt to deflect from the fact noted above, and to turn this issue into another gun-grabbing lever.

Assume away. I’ll take the house was locked, a criminal broke in and now the consequences of such are on them.

Absolutely. The entire premise is asinine.
“Ma’am, we’re you wearing the short skirt before you were assaulted or was your attire less responsible?”

Is someone who breaks into your home, committing a crime, a “visitor”?
Should I leave cheese and crackers out in case they are hungry, too?
Visiting kind of indicates you might be there and a personal interaction.
“persons we don’t expect” …but you know that
They’re “Visitors”…again you know that as well.

I can’t believe we are arguing whether guns should be secured or not?

If there is a person I don’t expect then I have the choice of opening my door or not.
Your idea of a visitor is well, completely different than mine.
What do you think visiting means?
