Twelve dollar an hour bouncers deal with grown ass men every single day everywhere in the country with more restraint.

You guys are awful condescending towards the parents when you have no idea what this kid’s problems were or why.

Yes it is … when all you see is the end of the play.

So the states can oppress all they want to?

I remember being a ballerina in a tutu dancing on top of cars during a blizzard in the 90’s.

It didn’t happen.

Defund was NEVER about “getting rid of cops”!

I watched some of those “discussions/debates” here and that was NOT the point some were trying to make!

It was a discussion about all the money going to “militarize” police departments, with weapons, gear and tanks. when some of that money could be spent on funding mental health professionals to help people in difficult situations.

So that a 911 dispatcher could have another alternative than sending cops to an address/ situation that didn’t need cops.

I remember when I was an ED for a senior outreach program back in the early 2000’s here in Brooklyn. NY…

Woodhull Hospital had an amazing Mobile Mental Health Unit. However,

911 would never call it. It was up to us non profit community providers to get them to homes.

It was such a GREAT program and even though we fought HARD to keep it funded (MANY of us gave our own personal $$$ to keep it funded)…?

There was more interest in getting tanks and weapons to subdue folks and place them in the “system” than there was in expanding the program and actually trying to HELP people suffering from a crisis or a mental illness!

This should have NEVER happened to this 9 year old girl!

And YES… I’ve raised FIVE sons in Brooklyn.NY and I was fortunate to NEVER had to call cops for crazy behaviour (and believe me…there were a few times…)

I was lucky!

I HAVE had to call 911 on a sister who is schizophrenic…but that was before HIPPA laws.

After HIPPA? when she was an adult and in “crisis”?
I had to watch ambulance leave and hear that she jumped in front of the “F” train 2 months later.

There is a whole spectrum of needs for the mentally ill…

Just like the needs of the physically ill!

Some here wanna explain how “frightening” a 9 yr old in crisis can be to 7-9 cops that they have to mace her after she is handcuffed!

“They had no choice”…

“Some 9 year olds are BIG!”

“She was OUT of CONTROL”

“Her parents could have done better…”

I think the money spent on the mace would/could have been better spent on training for cops and/OR more funding to municipalities to have better services for folks in crisis!

I’d think that you wouldn’t handcuff or pepper spray someone having a seizure or a heart attack.

No, but if they do, it doesn’t have anything to do with small government conservatism, which is focused on federal power.

I am not saying the Mother abused the girl, but the Step Father had a screaming match with the child to the point the child wanted to talked with her real Father and the Mother refused, citing that she had custody. Even in the car the girl was calling for her Dad.

She was injured prior to the Police arriving, according to the Mother.

I am glad she is on the right track, that is a good thing. But I don’t get how the Step Father has any right to be screaming at a nine year old that isn’t his. Step parents can be incredible and loving additions to a child’s life, but I hesitate when it comes to disciplining a child that is still not yours but your spouse’s.

It doesn’t look good.

Maybe not physically, but the Mother admitted that the Step Father had a screaming match with the girl. Who is the adult here? That is abuse as well.

You…

Gretchen Whitmer would disagree with you.

Precisely, and when Libs were talking about “defunding” the Police, this is what they were talking about. Why do we need the Police here? Because there isn’t other resources available to handle this, such as a crisis manager/social worker on call who can be mobilized by a 911 call.

We ask too much of Cops, they aren’t trained to be crisis managers, to know how to handle drug abuse or abusers, to deal with suicide attempts. They need to be Police officers, not psychiatrists or social workers.

Thin blue line

Except from what I read, they do have a crisis team there, but didn’t send them due to the threat of violence, ie the girl threatening to kill her mother.

That’s not what happened. Did you even watch the video?

A reality check from police? She’s freaking 9!!!

Some people think getting beat or abused by cops can be a positive life changing moment.

Just getting arrested can be.

How old were you?

Small government conservative advocating arresting 9 year olds to teach them a lesson

It can be. I just wouldn’t make that jump without evidence.

Sounds to me like a classic case of “You’re not my real daddy!”
