For me they would.

Been too many instances of cops in general upping aggressiveness…

Of course, how many out of the million or so cops?

Too many…It’s beginning to happen too often. And some defend their actions, including some on here. Before you know it, it will be SOP.

Yeah so why not maced a handcuff nine year old. Might as well be as brutal as possible since if they were less brutal people would have still complained.

At what point along the line of a rational thought process in responding to a suicidal child does it diverge into the idea of cuffing them, tossing them in the back of a cruiser and pepper spraying them?

I’m going to go with at no point because I don’t believe it was a rational response.

What else are they supposed to do if she refuses to get in the car, minus the pepper spray, which happened after she was already restrained. Leave her there? Stay there for hours or days?

That’s the job of social workers, not cops.

Okay, but let’s not get into your sex life here. :stuck_out_tongue:

You’re lucky that you have never experienced an out of control hysterical child.

That’s not how I remember the discussion. The discussion was about dismantling police departments, essentially getting rid of cops and replacing them with social workers. Is that what you think should be done?

That’s still not an answer. The question was not about what they should not have done, it was about what they should have done. What precisely should they have done?

Who might that be?

They were called by someone at that address to respond to a domestic disturbance. I don’t know what the policy is in that city, but it is common police department policy in most municipalities that in domestic disturbance cases, at least one of the involved individuals will be removed from the scene. There are way too many instances of violence resuming and escalating after the cops leave because they thought they had resolved the situation.

My take on this, for what it is worth.

I heard the Mother mutter something about custody as the child called for her Father.

According to the Mother and the Police report, she did not live with her Mom and Dad, she lived with her Mom and her Step Father.

She was recently injured on one of her arms, which was exacerbated by the Police manhandling her. And, according to the Mother, the whole incident started with an argument between the girl and the Step Father.

Most logically, this seems like the girl is being abused and had just had enough of it, she wanted her Dad but according to the Mother, that wasn’t going to happen because she had custody.

So SuperMom calls the Cops on her daughter, instead of letting her see or talk to her Father who might calm her down. And they brutalize her.

And now SuperMom is suing the Police.

That poor girl.

I can just imagine what the public outrage would be if they saw the video of police doing that.

Sure a lot of armchair quarterbacking going on here …

What are you suggesting, that they should lose their parental rights? Wouldn’t that require the forced removal of the child by authorities? What if the child didn’t want to leave and threw a hysterical tantrum?

Pretty much my point exactly. There is far too much judgement going on here without any intimate knowledge of the details behind the pepper spay moment.
