Think of the televised hearing
'(and ll the coverage of his books etc,)
Just nominating him, just forcing the military, the Senate and the media to face the issues about which he is so passioante it a battle half won.
Thus far, what I see with Trump picks are those of like-mind with Trump. Gone are the days when his picks would dare to go against his wishes. Every pick this go 'round will do exactly what they are told. IMHO
With Hegseth, experience isnāt a prerequisite. Can he be counted on to do exactly what he is told without question?
I anxiously await his confirmation hearing. Iāll bet he has a tough time getting confirmed because of his lack of both military and management experience.
Impressive jacket. I did contract work for the military and USCG but never overseas. Thanks for your service. Do you know Hegsethās current IRR rank? Just curious.
You heard correctly. To your point regarding backstabbing Generals and backup staff. Hegseth has lived that nightmare and wrote a book outlining how those idiots allowed political correctness, DEI and woke agendas to wreck the US Military command, training, readiness, enlistment and willingness. Prime example, Lloyd Austin. Austinās āgo along to get alongā ideology is in my opinion, unforgivable. Austin should have tossed his stars on the table and resigned long ago. Hegseth has been outspoken about the Pentagon on Austinās watch and I believe he will do a total 180 on policy and get the US Military back to what it is supposed to be and not some whiz bang progressive social experiment.
I donāt disagree with all that and can do that immediately. But then he is gonna need to start prioritizing the military and money. He will need help and people on his side. He needs to get rid of 1/3-1/2 general positions. Do it as they retire then eliminate the position.
Not blindly. They are supposed to disagree when he attempts to cross the line into illegal and unethical behavior. Towards that end, if the disagreement results in their refusal to do his bidding, they can resign.
We saw that with many of Trumpās picks the last go 'round. There was a line they wouldnāt cross, and they were removed from office. My fear this go 'round is that Trump will pick those who would be more than willing to cross whatever line he asks them to cross. That really scares the hell out of me.
Of particular concern is the possibility Trump might appoint an Attorney General who would be more than happy to weaponize the DOJ on his behalf. He would then use the DOJ to go after his enemies. Hopefully the Senate would be able to stop that from happening, through the confirmation process, but you never know.
Has he ever managed a group of people half the size of the DoD? 1/4 the size?
Has he ever led signifigant numbers while in the military? Like 1,000s?
Seems like a one trick pony - anti-DEI - which is fine. If thatās where you want to go, go there. But I donāt think the Sec. of Defense can be a one trick pony. Has to lead an incredibly large organization, and will be facing conflicts across the globe at the same time.
