The Boston bomber was charged with using a “weapon of mass destruction” based on an IED in a pressure cooker. The statute is written very broad so that practically any weapon other than a firearm or a firecracker is classified as a WMD.
The same thing is going on now with classifying fentanyl as a chemical weapon. “Drug trafficking” is not on the list of approved uses for toxic chemicals.
Closer and closer, I’m guessing strikes this weekend.

Neocons certainly see regime change and taking the oil as prime objectives.
The problem is that it would take far more than the ~15,000 marines that are now in the Caribbean to invade and occupy Venezuela. The US is not prepared to fight a ground war in Venezuela.
My guess is that we will see air strikes and possibly military action using Venezuelan exiles and dissidents to attempt a coup–Bay of Pigs 2.0. The US has instigated multiple failed coups in the past. The last one was in 2019. It is unlikely that the US will be more successful this time.
We may well also see air strikes or drone attacks in Colombia and/or Mexico targeting alleged drug traffickers.

That’s why everyone had such a revulsion to chemical weapons after the war. During the war, human beings were literally being treated like insects during gas attacks. They had way worse stuff available in WWII but outside of Japan using them against the Chinese, everyone refrained from using them. Almost all the generals on both sides in WWII were young men in WWI and had seen the horror first hand.
Probably the only time in history before nuclear weapons where humanity refrained from using something in a total war.
Nothing screams freedom like a B-1B dropping 50,000 pounds of explosives on something.
And Republicans are already being forced to investigate Hegseth! Go figure.
