“If the conservative cause depends on the populist appeal of one personality, or on second-rate imitations, then we’re not going anywhere. Voters looking for Republican leaders want to see independence and mettle,” he said.
And leaving no doubt about who he was talking about, though he did not name Mr. Trump, Ryan continued, “They will not be impressed by the sight of yes-men and flatterers flocking to Mar-a-Lago.”
Paul Ryan should really look at his own actions while Trump was President… he enabled him and became a spineless “yes man” himself. It’s the reason why he’s not in office anymore. It’s as if these Trump bootlickers are trying to rewrite their own history amd suddenly grow a spine right after they lose power to actually do something about the very thing they’re complaining about.

Could it be that Ryan is positioning himself for a comeback in the Republican Party should the whole Fear of Trump thing come tumbling down?

What Ryan and a lot of traditional Republicans don’t get is that, now that we’ve had some experience with someone from outside the system, someone who isn’t a career politician who is either trying to hang on to, or return to, taxpayer funded political office, we may not (or never) be inclined to go back to the old, stale stable.

Politics on both sides of the aisle need to have their houses cleaned. The R side is beginning to do it and Cheney is an example. Trump has instigated this movement and I hope it continues. There’s no question that when it comes to corrupt, political turds…it’s a target rich environment in DC. Ryan is a part of what was and his comments simply expose that. Where this movement will go is a good question and Trump doesn’t have that many years left. New leaders must step up and DeSantis looks to be in it. “It” is of the people, for the people and by the people and this has been missing for a long time.

Who is he even talking to?
Trumpers don’t care, and never Trumpers will see it as too little, too late. Never mind the fact he walked away from the fight years ago.
At one time, Ryan was a force in the party, but not anymore
He’s still scratching his head.
How on earth is demoting Cheney supposed to be a positive example of the GOP cleaning house? She voted along with Trump, whose movement you hope continues as mentioned here
far more frequently than her replacement. She literally stood by the ideas you’re trying to support more than her replacement, but because she stood against the PERSON (Trump), she was ousted.
The tingle that Trump sends up some peoples’ legs is really embarrassing.

oh please. cheney was removed from leadership because she made her whole “self” about trump hate and refused to move on from it. all she had to do was stop talking about trump and start talking about policy. and this comes from a republican who liked vp cheney and trump

Paul Ryan is the problem with Republicans. Too many like him are in the party where they say one thing and do the opposite. People like him are why conservatives have a hard time calling republican party home.

Oh no! cheney refused to let the instigators of Jan 6 insurrection get swept under the rug. How dare she!
The party of responsibility just can’t seem to take any responsibility. Disgusting!
there was no insurrection, thats your (and her) first mistake.

Has anyone been charged with insurrection yet?

Liberals do not love Romney. Many of us respect him for showing some integrity.
He is still a hard care conservative, who is wrong on most policy issues.

Much like Al Capone, many (495) are getting charged with crimes that are more likely to to prove in a court of law.
