New York City could close major streets and avenues this week to help slow the spread of the Coronavirus; effectively creating new pedestrian walkways to decrease congestion and crowd density in the nation’s largest city.
“New York City is planning to close select streets and may further close public parks and playgrounds in an effort to slow the spread of the coronavirus, Governor Andrew Cuomo told reporters Wednesday,” reports The Hill.

“Per CNBC highlights and The Hill’s livestream of the conference, Gov. Cuomo said these new measures may be implemented to help city residents socially distance themselves from each other,” adds the website.
“People want to walk. They want to go out and get some air. You want a less dense area, so pilot closing streets to cars, opening streets to pedestrians,” said Governor Cuomo.
