Abortion is not about personhood. Personhood is a human construct that can change at the will of lawmakers. There have been societies that did not award personhood until the age of two. And of course, in many societies, slave keepers did not consider their property to be persons at all.

I am not pushing for any line. You can set the line anywhere you want, provided you have the political support to do so. All I want from you and the rest who want as much latitude as you can get to do abortions, is for you to admit that every abortion performed kills a human being.

I contend that blacks should be the last people on the planet trying to hide behind the concept of “personhood” to retain their right to kill their own offspring.

They want to go back to the days of slavery to press every other claim of racism and inequity, but somehow they can’t see that they are using antebellum arguments to support abortion.

“They’re not people. They’re property.”

(And further, abortion statistics happen to show an inordinate proportion being carried out on black babies, making it a rather racist institution in and of itself.)

If this happens, I don’t think Republicans are prepared for the consequences. That’s all I’m saying. Roe being upheld has a majority of support in the country.

Every law gets broken. But by and large, people stop doing what is illegal. Most did during prohibition. Some still murder today. Most do not engage in kiddie porn. Some will still get abortions.

Human nature will not change. That does not mean we cannot say as a society that one thing or another is abjectly wrong.

It was misplaced for someone to diminish something as vile as killing one’s own child to something like social drinking – even if prohibition had effectiveness when it was in place.

“Blacks” were killed in the womb and as grown men/women…neither of which had personhood due to slavery. The difference now… is that born black people have personhood just like born white people.
