There is video after video of authoritarian cops harassing and violating people’s rights, of all colors and backgrounds. That’s the real problem.

Afraid not.

Minnesota AG Keith Ellison called for more police reforms. Heck, Democrats run the State, Democrats run the city, Democrats control the police department. If they don’t do it themselves then whom are they calling to come in and reform the police department? Do they want Trump to come there and tell them how to do it because they don’t know how?

The biggest roadblock to police reform is police, not politicians.

Police reform doesn’t appear to be as appealing as, “RACIST!”

To a certain degree I agree with this. Police reform must begin in local jurisdictions instead of some over arching federal mandate. I could be wrong, but that’s just my thoughts on it.

Politicians control the police, not the other way around. And don’t tell me “police unions”. They only exist as long as the politicians allow them.

I would argue that the system is calcified to the extent that meaningful reform on any level isn’t really a practical reality.

No they don’t!

Lol, of course they do. The state can get rid of every police department, force early retirement, prohibit unions, limit the power of police unions, remove chiefs, bring in other chiefs…etc.
States have the police power. Police don’t have the state power.
States may choose not to exercise that power, but they have it.

Oh, have you heard? The liberals want to defund the police.

Isn’t that outrageous?

This is hilariously untrue. Police departments are loci of political power themselves and the bigger the city, the more power they have. There’s never been a mayor in NYC or LA or Chicago who’s gone up against their PD and won. Not one.

It’s even funnier in the context of Minneapolis where the cops literally ran the city behind the scene for most of the 20th century.

I disagree.

That I agree with. It will take a lot to break the inertia. This isn’t it.

Do the police pay themselves with tax dollars?

Ok.

What is “this”?

Yes they do. And the judiciary is a big problem as well.
