A significant amount of their revenue is derived through direct solicitation of donations from the members, above and beyond dues. They also sell advertising in their publications and on television broadcasts. They do not receive “kickbacks” on firearm sales from manufacturers or distributors. There are, however, several gun and outdoor equipment sales outlets who participate in the “roundup” program where the total cost of items purchased is rounded up to the even dollar and the difference (less than $1) is donated to the NRA. But that option is the choice of the customer, making it a private donation, not an industry donation.
