Mammy is 16th century English.
In this context, aunt and uncle is a term of respect.
The former has fallen completely out of use. It’s not, nor has it ever been, “Mammy Jemima”. If this is the standard, Tyler Perry is in trouble.
It will be interesting to see where The Purge ends up, it won’t end.
Let’s ban any image of any woman in any kitchen.
Aunt Esther must be a slave. Sanford reruns have to go.
Maxine Waters bears a close resemblance to Aunt Esther. Maybe she needs to go.

I get what you’re saying. All the same, that is the original intent of the character. You can name this stuff anything you like without the historic connotations associated with this brand which are, indeed, harmful.
I remember when I was a kid my family ate at “Sambo’s Restaurant”. I really liked their pancakes. They had cartoons of “Little Black Sambo” all over the place, I thought it was cool as a 7 year old. It was a national chain. The owners sold the chain and the new owners renamed it “Baker’s Square” in the 1980s, with a few other ones being sold and converted to Denny’s.
Time to let go of things and move on.

You don’t know that Sambo was the first cartoon in the mainstream that the hero was black, do you?
She was a former slave, they dressed her up as a slave and speaking pidgin english. Doesn’t take a rocket scientist to suss things out.

She’s not dressed up as a slave and she was speaking Ebonics. What about her dress says “slave” to you?
Time to move on, no images of black people in advertising.

The fact you need it defining is interesting.

Who would have thought that corporate branding changes would bring such tears?

Anyone who is upset these companies are making these changes probably need to do some self-reflection as to why they are so upset.

Where are her white masters in that picture? Who is she serving the pancakes to?

Explain it. Define the slave image in that campaign.
You’re the only one who has mentioned being upset. No one else has. Get over it.

The contents of that post are stupid. There are no tears and that is not the point. But you know that.
