The molar pregnancy Jaci Statton had would never become a baby. It was cancerous, though.
At the last hospital in Oklahoma she went to during her ordeal last month, Statton says staff told her and her husband that she could not get a surgical abortion until she became much sicker.
“They were very sincere; they weren’t trying to be mean,” Statton, 25, says. “They said, ‘The best we can tell you to do is sit in the parking lot, and if anything else happens, we will be ready to help you. But we cannot touch you unless you are crashing in front of us or your blood pressure goes so high that you are fixing to have a heart attack.’”
I see this is an old story, but I don’t remember it bein a thread.
This is crazy. A completely non-viable pregnancy that threatens the life of the woman, and this is how it has to be handled?
I wonder if the laws have been refined since April.
The most obvious exceptions for allowing abortion should be either molar or ectopic pregnancies, the fact that they denied her care despite the fact she did not have a fetus but rather a tumor inside her uterus is astounding.
Is it, though? The news spin says this is what doctor(s) said. The news spin casts this as the way it is in Oklahoma overall. In fact, the news spin is running wild with what one person said doctors said.
I do not deny that there are people out there – legislators included – who advocate for denying abortion to a woman whose life is threatened by a problem pregnancy. The right to self-defense is foundational in our laws, and cooler heads will prevail.
It occurred to me that regardless of one’s position on abortion if they are not in agreement with the laws in their domicile, there are two clear choices.
Work with the respective state legislatures for change if that’s the consensus. Or
■■■■■■■ move to a state that offers infantacide on demand.
I am of the opinion if a mother is the victim of rape or incest OR as described earlier a terminal condition that isn’t an embryo or fetus at all, the medical procedure should be available.
