It is not about how much one gives but rather why and the sacrifice. For instance many around the world can not use donations as a tax write off.

Religion equals insanity. At least atheists can think freely without dogma and gods clouding morality.

The Judeo Christian and god of Mohammed is the same vengeful, cruel god, built upon by centuries of mythology, exploited by rulers to control the masses, and is a bastion of lost hope for the hopeless.

Think freely, and you can save yourself, and only when you save yourself, can you help others, and that is what Christ was saying before he was executed.

You say atheists pass judgment? Well guess what- there is no dogmatic doctrine that says I CAN’T. I live in the buckle of the bible belt, and a lot of Christians use Jesus to make themselves feel better about all the wrong and evils they do in everyday life. Religion just gives people an excuse to commit evil, to hurt their fellow man, and then turn to their vengeful god for salvation and forgiveness just so they will feel better about themselves.

2000 years of religious nutters and warfare and humanity has not grown up one iota.

We should have been plotting our way through our solar system by now. We should have eradicated hunger and disease by now. We should have learned to coexist with each other by now, conquered mental illness, warfare, genocide and general stupidity but thanks to organized religion and the vanity, greed, lust, gluttony, avarice, bloodshed that religious intolerance breeds, not to mention the indoctrination and destruction of rugged individuals into this backwater backward antiquated way of thinking, we are stuck.

We are a willful, arrogant, barbaric species. We deserve nothing less than extinction, thanks to the arrogance and hatred of religion.

When we realize that religion has served its purpose in the past, and can come to terms with what we desire to be humanity and what we actually are, will we actually be enlightened and tolerant of free thinking.

It’s like this dude has never heard of the Crusades. You know that deal back in the middle ages where soldiers were offered the spoils of heathens in exchange for raping, burning, pillaging, and then planting the King’s flag on heathen soil. They were committing these acts against barbarians so they didn’t break any of God’s commandments. Holy war don’t you know. All in the name of the Christian Judeo God. Atheists need to stop knocking on doors spreading our “truth” and having tax exempt organizations dedicated to atheism that have influential political action committees. We need to stop printing “in atheism we trust” on all US currency and saying “one nation, under atheism” in the pledge of allegience. We will also stop insisting that everyone who disagrees with us will be sentenced to eternal damnation.

There’s no convincing evidence of abiogenesis but I assume you believe that.

I have no idea how life began. My understanding is labs have created amino acids which are a potential first step.

It’s an exciting area of science and I look forward to what they discover.

That’s a whole lot better than saying “God did it” and not pursuing the question.

Back to what I believe, I tend to think some abiogenesis happened naturally. Why? If I apply Occam’s Razor I can simply say that done mechanism in nature that we have yet to understand started life.

If I go with the divine, then I have to create a divine being which has no evidence for existing or any other divine being having existed, and it uses a power that is similarly unfashionable to create life.

The more parsimonious explanation is likely the former.

Thanks for your donations . It says a lot about your character and beliefs. I am more on the right of the political spectrum and you are more on the left, but I admire people such as yourself who are making a difference in peoples lives…and not just their tribe.

I have a hard time in these United States when every time I turn around it seems like people politicians want to take more of my tax money with no accountability whatsoever. Where did the money go? no one knows. In other parts of the world people really are suffering. All many of them really want is just clean water. We really take that for granted here. To me, clean water for a guy in Zambia is much more important than the money we throw away on lottery tickets.

I would note that my giving is not defined by whether the recipient group is religious or non-religious. I give to both.

There are certain groups that for politically related reasons I will never give to, such as the United Way, although I might give DIRECTLY to one of their underlying charities.

On the other, I have donated time and labor, as well as money, to some groups, particularly Habitat for Humanity.

If they have a good charity rating (low administrative ratio, etc.) and they don’t endorse anything that I politically oppose, I will consider giving to them.

What are they supposed to do? Give and boast so the likes of her will be appeased?

The spirit of giving, as in the Christian verse above, is supposed to be about giving in love and keeping it between the giver and the recipient—not to be seen as a giver by others.

Just like anyone who gives money and then announces it to the world, they are getting publicity for their cause.
