Former President Barack Obama officially entered the 2018 midterm elections Friday; telling students in Illinois the Republican Party is “capitalizing on resentment” to retain control of Congress this fall.
Obama was speaking at the University of Illinois when he slammed President Trump and the GOP for using a “playbook as old as time” and urged young Americans to get out and vote “because our democracy depends on it.”
“You need to vote because our democracy depends on it. … Just a glance at recent headlines should tell you this moment really is different," he said.
"You happen to be coming of age during one of those moments. It did not start with Donald Trump. He is a symptom, not the cause. He’s just capitalizing on resentments that politicians have been fanning for years,” added Obama.
