NYT: NATO's "network of commandos and spies" are running the war in Ukraine

A fresh New York Times report has confirmed what many already suspected - that the CIA is still very active inside Ukraine - especially with training as well coordinating weapons among its Ukrainian allies. The Times report details “a stealthy network of commandos and spies rushing to provide weapons, intelligence and training,” based on US and European intelligence officials with knowledge of the operations. The report says Ukrainian forces are reliant on this Western clandestine network “more than ever” while outgunned by the Russians.

The Times report also confirms that special forces from Canada and several other NATO countries are operating in Ukraine.

This story is hardly surprising for ZeroHedge readers. On the other hand, the admission is a major departure for the New York Times. The Times and the rest of the mainstream US media have generally downplayed CIA and special-forces involvement in Ukraine or dismissed reports as “Russian disinformation”.

Is the report a tacit admission that the Zelensky government is little more than a US puppet state?

Why are these revelations coming out now?

Are the reports intended to provide an exit strategy as western operatives are captured by Russian forces?

Or is the intent to escalate the conflict to bring US combat troops into Ukraine?

Glenn Greenwald has this to say about the Times story:

It is interesting that the Biden administration has been blaming the Ukrainian government for not providing a true picture of the war situation, but then we find out that western intel agencies have been running things. Is Washington, not Kiev, the real source of the intel failures?

Intelligence failure is code for politicians got busted lying and need to lay blame on people who can’t be held accountable.

There isn’t anything this illegal administration has done that isn’t a failure.

Unless you ask the Taliban and they love Biden.

is there anyone who didn’t know the cia are spies?

as to them “running the war”, i certainly hope not because the strategy since russia was rebuffed in the north has been a dismal and predictable failure.

The New York Times article doesn’t say that we’re “running the war,” that’s just the OP’s predictable spin.

no one is really pushing back on Rrrrussia because they like pathetic Biden and the maniac children running the govt and state dept know at this point what it would mean

they are cowards

Yes, it says that they are providing “weapons, intelligence and training”. Of course, the government in Kiev has been answering to Washington since 2014; Biden made that back in 2018. That amounts to running the war from what I can see.

The NATO supplied missile is controlled using NATO supplied targeting information and target selection. The finger that pushes the button may be Ukrainian, that is about it.

The endless war machine that brought us Afghanistan , Libya, Syria is now engaged in ww3.

No real incentive to stop the war when the Brandon admin is blaming the inflation on the war in Ukraine.

Yes, there are elements in Washington that want war forever. The problem is that Ukrainian losses are accelerating, and an eventual collapse is becoming more likely.

The military complex is looking for Ukraine to be an informercial for future arms sales. A decisive Russian victory would be terrible for sales, especially given Ukrainian complaints related to the weapons. DOD is looking for a negotiated settlement to save face. One the other hand, the CIA and State Department want to continue the fight; Ukraine is the hill to die on for them.

Expect contradictions and confusion from Washington and Kiev as Ukraine becomes the site of a proxy turf war.

Probably the same group that installed Zelenski in 2014 using western money and western controlled NGO’s… Which is the real start of the war by the way! Just another one of Obama’s many wars. And if you look at it that way, who’s realling the expansionist, NATO or Putin?

FYI, I added an OP link to the Times article that does not have a paywall.

The first ten minutes of this new video from Alex Christoforou provides some interesting commentary about the Times report. He notes that the Times report totally reverses earlier narratives that denied that there is proxy war and claimed that Ukraine was keeping the US in the dark about their military operations. He also notes that is probably no coincidence that the article mentions Lithuanian special forces in Ukraine at the same time that Lithuania is attempting to restrict Russian access to Kaliningrad.
