When you decriminalize crimes, crime rates magically go down.

Great point! Hell with Californians! What happens in California stays in California! No reason the rest of America should be concerned. It’s not like anybody of California mentality could ever actually gain a seat of power in America and push to have such silly laws inflicted on everyone else! No need to be concerned until it actually happens because unpopular or stupid laws are so much easier to undo than prevent!

Is crime going down in red areas because of better and more severe law enforcement and appearing to go down in blue areas because of lax enforcement where it isn’t reported or is crime simply going down everywhere?

Let’s try and address one thing at a time. Smash and grabs are up- WAY up. This is a fairly recent type of crime. Like a lot of other types of crime. I do not remember hearing of smash and grabs growing up through the 70s and 80s. Now, it is brazen and common. Before discussing WHO is doing these crimes ( which is a crime in itself) how about first discussing HOW this country got to a point that fosters this type of behavior? The HOW is very closely related to the WHO.

SOMETHING has changed dramatically in the last 40 years. If, as you seem to assert, society is improving, I would think we would see a corresponding drop not only in crime, but across every other social problem as well. There ISN’T a drop in societal problems, crime included, at least not any consistent measurable way that can be attributed to government policy or action. You seem, like a good Lib, to believe that more government programs and more tax money can reduce or solve social issues and crime, yet history demonstrates otherwise. What makes Democrat policies, in regards to ANY issue, but especially crime since that’s the discussion topic, a better choice for society?

Fosters the kind of behavior that organized crime exists?

You don’t need to come up with global conspiracies to understand that organized crime is a thing and that they will go after ways of stealing products that seem easiest. In the past they would simply steal shipments of things… the old “fell off a back of a truck” routine. When one person hit upon a flash mob running in and stealing a bunch of stuff real fast others saw that as effective and copied it.

It’s organized crime… they will come up with something new in a couple of years and you can blame that on the WHO and Democrats too.

Overall violent crime has been steadily decreasing for years. The 90’s were much more violent on almost every metric than it is now.

And post pandemic… crime continues to fall.
