Vermont Senator and 2020 presidential hopeful Bernie Sanders weighed-in on the current crisis taking place along the US-Mexico border Friday; saying the “dehumanization of immigrants” must “stop now.”

“900 people were held at a border facility with a maximum capacity of 125, according to the DHS Inspector General. This is inhumane. It must stop NOW. We must end the dehumanization of immigrants and develop a humane policy for those at the border who seek asylum,” posted Sanders on social media.

Sanders’ position on immigration was surprisingly different just months ago, writing “There’s no crisis at the border. President Trump, you want to talk about crises?
-30 million Americans have no health insurance
-Climate change threatens our planet
-Half of older Americans have no retirement savings
-40 million are dealing with outrageous student debt.”

Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi publicly admitted there was an escalating “crisis” at the US-Mexico border last week; saying a “humanitarian crisis” was taking place but blaming the Trump administration for “provoking” the disaster.

“We’ve never not said that there was a crisis. There is a humanitarian crisis at the border. And some of it provoked by the actions taken by the administration and… I’ll just quote our friends from the Evangelical community when they came in and testified in the last Congress in one of our rump hearings because the Republicans wouldn’t have the hearing,” said Pelosi during an interview on Satellite Radio.

“We will hopefully work together in a bipartisan way to address this. But, yes, it is a crisis…” she added.

Pelosi’s comments are drastically different from her rhetoric just months ago after President Trump declared a “national emergency” at the US-Mexico border.

“The President’s unlawful declaration over a crisis that does not exist does great violence to our Constitution and makes America less safe, stealing from urgently needed defense funds for the security of our military and our nation,” said a joint statement released by Pelosi and Schumer’s office.

“There. Is. No. Crisis. At. The. Border,” posted the official Twitter account of the Democratic Party.
