North Carolina's unconstitutional gerrymandered map will be used in midterms

Who here lives in NC? Isn’t this the 2nd or 3rd time in a row that they’ve used unconstitutional maps (because they drew everything out to the very last second)?

It’s OK. The D PA justices drew up a D gerrymander that they WILL get to use.

Too bad it won’t be enough to swing the House. The answer as to WHY happened yesterday at the Kavanaugh hearing.

Same thing that was done to all the other maps.

The bias is implicit, whether you acknowledge it or not. This is why the legislature gets to draw the maps the way they do…Otherwise the challenges could go on ad nauseum…Challenging the maps is part of the process and needs done in a timely and proper manner.

I’m not sure what was drawn out to the last second. Please explain. Remember congressional boundries are re-drawn after the census. How long did it take NC to re dreaw the boundries after the 2010 census? Shen did the D’s first file a lawsuit agains the boundries? Was the illegal boundries used in 2016, 2014, 2012?

Yes. The 2011 boundaries were considered “unconstitutional” and so they got redrawn after that case concluded in 2016. So they will get to use that map in 2018. Hopefully we can slightly alter the map late in 2020 and still use a similar map for that election.

Again, all partisan legislatures act with bias. Anybody who does not comprehend that fact is naive at best and a ******* moron at worst.

You can play patsy with lawsuits all you want, Democrats and Republicans will just subtly shift the way they do things to get around the previous result.

The ONLY long term solution is to adopt bipartisan redistricting commissions with super-majority requirements so that neither party can control the process.

As an aside, the court was correct to let the maps stand for this election, it is far too late to be ******* with the maps now.

November 2010 - NC Republicans win Super Majority
January 26, 2011 - They start to work
~ 4 months later
June 7, 2011 - NC Republicans unveil new districts
November 1, 2011 - New districts get preclearence
November 3, 2011 - Lawsuit filed for isolating black citizens in a small # of districts
July 8, 2013 - Districts upheld by 3 judge panel
December, 2014 - Districts upheld by NC Supreme Court
April 20, 2015 - US Supreme Court told NC to take another look (due to racial gerrymandering)
December 18, 2015 - Districts upheld again by NC Supreme Court (says race was a factor)
February 5, 2016 - Two districts ruled racially gerrymandered by 3 judge panel (ordered them redrawn within two weeks)
February 18, 2016 - NC Republicans hold Special Session to redraw maps (Republican leaders say they intend to maintain 10-3 partisan split)
August 5, 2016 - Lawsuit filed for partisan gerrymandering (by League of Women Voters, etc)
May 22, 2017 - US Supreme Court rules that districts were designed to dilute the voice of black voters
January 9, 2018 - Three judge panel finds that NC Republicans violated the US Constitution’s Equal Protection Clause
June 25, 2018 - US Supreme Court sends case back to District Court
August 27, 2018 - District Court again finds districts are unconstitutionally gerrymandered

so, they drew the gerrymandered districts originally in 4 months. they’ve now been fighting to keep the gerrymandered districts (thus keeping power) for 7 years, 7 months, 29 days.

four months. almost 8 years.
