Language use is neither strictly precise nor unstructured, while communication can be both.

The earth is round, because ‘round’ covers all generally ball-shaped or globular phenomena. ‘Round’ does not mean ‘perfectly spherical’. If that were true, the ‘rounded corners of the bannister’ would be a nonsense utterance, which it is clearly not. If it were true, then a ‘globe’ eould be an unrecognizable signifier.

Again, our idea or perception of green and the underlying light spectrum are not the same things. If anything relies on how my senses are configured to exist it isn’t an actual part of underlying reality. That part of the light spectrum would still exist if I was color blind, but green doesn’t.

There seems to be an unproven assumption there that what is not apparent to you must depend on the configuration of your senses to exist at all.

Why is that “true”? By that standard how is anything real?

OK all. I have been here for 14 years watching both sides fight about what is true and not. It is becoming clear to me that it is easier and easier to find like minded people no matter how far left or right one is, or how crazy a conspiracy theory is, thanks to 21st century technology. It’s getting to the point that there really isn’t a common set of facts anymore. I see us getting to the point that there will be no such thing as ‘truth’.

How the heck are we going to deal with a world where there is essentially no such thing as the truth?
