Colin Kaepernick’s legal team is seeking testimony from President Trump regarding the alleged “conspiracy” to keep the out-of-work quarterback from rejoining the NFL after months of player protests.
The former San Francisco 49er’s lawyers are arguing that the President, Vice President Pence, and team owners colluded to keep Kaepernick out of the league; claiming their political involvement while the athlete was a free agent impacted his eligibility for employment.
“Kaepernick’s legal team will have to convince the system arbitrator overseeing the grievance case that Trump, Pence and others’ testimony would be relevant and make an impact on the case. If the arbitrator grants the request, the lawyers will then have to seek the subpoenas in a district court under the Federal Arbitration Act,” writes Fox News.
Kaepernick was the first professional athlete to “take a knee” during the performance of the national anthem in 2016, citing police violence and racial injustice in America.
