The Chinese leadership was pretty serious that a leader for life, in the model Mao, was bad for country and party. Xi thinks he is emperor of China for life, and has been implementing making himself just that. There are elements in the party who are not happy with a return to a ruler for life model.

Wouldn’t hold my breath. Kim Jung Un goes MIA for a few days every now and then, rumors start flying, and then he shows up fine and dandy. Probably the same thing here.

I didn’t realize how old the opening post was. I’ve not been keeping up with much of the news lately. So I missed everything about rumors of a China coup, Which now have apparently been quite debunked.
