Democratic Congresswoman Ayanna Pressley introduced legislation this week that would lower the federal voting age to just 16-year-old; saying “young people are at the forefront of some of our most existential crises.”

Pressley was speaking with her fellow lawmakers Tuesday when she commented on her proposal; claiming the new age requirement would help give “young people” the “opportunity to exercise their rights.”

“Young people are leading the way, which has bene the case for every social movement throughout our history. They are organizing and mobilizing and calling us to action,” said the Congresswoman.

“Young people are at the forefront of some of our most existential crises,” Pressley added. “The time has come. Our young people deserve to have the opportunity to exercise their right to vote.”
