Ahh the classic…Mention Trump in any context, and you’re either afraid of him, or he’s living rent free in your head. Well at least you cons are consistent.

Like I said, lock him up. Just like Hildawg.

And the politicization of th justice department is complete. We may soon see why they desperately want to pack the courts.

Considering the record of this administration so far, if Republicans can get a majority in the Senate they must never approve another Biden appointee, at least no without prior consultation.

violating whos rights? they supeoned the records.

Presumably, unless the IRS is corrupt and is allowing tax evasion, the non-existence of IRS suits against President Trump means they found nothing illegal.

The committee is required to deal with the information with the same degree of confidentiality as the IRS. If they think they find some illegal evasion, they should confirm their opinion on that with the IRS and allow the IRS to follow up on it.

What we should not see is the committee illegally leaking tax info to the public when they think they see something suspicious.

Who thinks the Dems will protect President Trump’s right to tax privacy and will allow the IRS to handle any troubling thing the committee finds according to IRS usual practice through the courts? Or will they leak details with a commentary that casts them in the worst possible light? And will they hold such leakers accountable?

The committee has subpoena power.
they are perfectly within their power to ask for the documents.

What has that got you do with my post?

Just like the right to vote can be suppressed to “secure elections, restore confidence of the people, and to imporve election integrity” (to paraphrase), this is about securing the Presidency and restoring the confidence and integrity of the office.

So all should be good, right?

The IRS has been auditing Donald Trump’s taxes for 10+ years. What is the DOJ hoping to find? Something that the IRS overlooked? If so, the onus is on the IRS.

If a citizen overpaid their taxes enough to get a refund of 70 million plus interest, I’d think he/she would be audited. Just a guess. :triumph:

Given the size of the refund, Trump’s audit is very much unlike what the average American would experience if their return were to come under scrutiny from the Internal Revenue Service.

How does the IRS audit 500 related businesses? "Trump paid $70.1 million in income taxes from 2005 to 2007, according to the Times story. It also noted that in the 2016 and 2017 tax years, Trump paid a total $5.2 million, but those payments were “rolled forward to cover potential taxes in future years” while the president tapped tax credits to address his tax liability.

The audit centers on Trump’s 2010 tax return, through which he claimed and received a refund totaling $72.9 million, according to the report. That amount includes all of the federal tax he had paid from 2005 until 2008 plus interest…"

You don’t answer the question you quoted.

When you say, “All should be good”, what do you mean? I am not at all confident that the Democrats will deal with Trump’s tax returns with the confidentiality that the law requires. I think they will selectively quote from it connect their quotes with a narrative that accuses Trump of things which are not illegal but unethical, and leak that slur to their propaganda arm, the MSM for political gain, thus politically weaponising the IRS.

Oversight is not a legitimate purpose here, as Trump is not in office. What possible legislative purpose could exist here?
As to credibility of the government, this has the opposite effect. The only purpose left is political in collusion with the Biden politicized DOJ.

Remember when Trump’s former lawyer testified in front of Congress that of you look into the taxes you would find a ton of crime?

Why do people act like that never happened?

You trust Trimp’s lawyers word? Why? Because he said what you wanted to hear.

The DOJ thinks there is a good enough reason.

If trump had given his taxes up from the beginning, this would have been put behind already.

Allan

Trump gave up his taxes to the IRS, the agency tasked with and expert in checking for tax crimes. They found no crime.

Do the scarecrow., Humpty Dumpy and the Wicked Witch of the West think they will be able to find something the IRS missed?

No. They want to find a few lines to insert into an already prepared script that alleges unethical behaviour, and then to leak their toxic home brew into the media cycle.
