Funny thing is - Nancy learned this little trick from none other than Moscow Mitch, who sat on a SC nomination for almost a year on the Senate side. I recall saying then that Moscow Mitch was setting the precedent for the Democrats to do the same thing.
Now, in 2020, sure enough Nancy has taken the cue and run with it.
Not sure exactly how it’s going to play out, but the end result is that he will be impeached but not convicted. There’s no way the R’s in the Senate are actually going to look at things like evidence. They’ll just vote on party lines.
Trump will have his acquittal, the dems will have the moral high ground, and both will claim victory during the 2020 campaign.
Senate Republicans are going to have to vote on Trump’s National emergency declaration at least one more time before the 2020 election. Trump is making it very difficult for several of the GOP Senators up for re-election this year. Link
She missed one fine point. “Moscow Mitch” didn’t want the SC nomination to go through and Obama did. In this case, Nancy wants the impeachment conviction to go through and “Moscow Mitch” clearly does not. Therefore, “Moscow Mitch” is not really pressured to do anything.
There is no moral high ground in trying to overturn the results of an election over a matter, not of a high crime or misdemeanor, but of a disagreement over whether trying to initiate an investigation was appropriate. That should have been handled as a matter of debate, not a matter of impeachment for political gain.
An impeachment isn’t “overturning an election.” There is absolutely no way it would give the presidency to Hillary. I wish people would quit spouting that nonsense. An impeachment is the constitutional tool for sorting out accusations of wrongdoing with certain elected officials.
However, if misused for political gain, an impeachment can be abuse of power, which I am told is an impeachable offense.
Yes, I know Congresspersons can’t be impeached for the same things they would impeach over.
