PRETTY sure you don’t know what you’re talking about here. While cellular companies store metadata for lengthy periods of time, they do not typically store the content of text messages for very long, sometime not at all. So this request is simply saying, “Don’t delete anything just yet, we still may need to look at something”.
That’s not fishing, that’s literally how an investigation works. FFS.
