Interesting how these peace proposals are coming out and being supported by some folks here…now that Russia is firmly losing.
The Russians are either losing or doing the modern equivalent of the mongolian retreat. We shall see in November.

No they’re losing. For real.
First of all they are mostly Russian speakers. Who they were ethnically is up for debate.
The country voted 30 years ago. Who won then?

I also love the “Lets have a vote!” after millions have been forcibly removed to Russia (or murdered) from those regions. Democracy!

Looks like they are losing, but if you are doing the mongolian retreat you have to make people believe it. And they are certainly building up a large force behind the lines…

Russis supposedly started this whole thing because of “security concerns”.
So here’s the deal.
Cease fire, withdraw. Rescind the annexation articles.
Then we can have a multilateral discussion about security concerns.
None of what Musk proposes (save for possibly Russia keeping Crimea…for historical reasons, that tracks) is even remotely doable while Russians occupy those territories.
I’d even be for a plebiscite after Russia withdraws all forces. Though it’s funny how i get to tell ap sovereign nation how to vote on its borders

Only after they return every single Ukrainian hostage…I mean citizen…back to Ukraine.
National Socialists are now cool but only if they are Ukrainian national socialists.
Given the furious response from the Ukrainian government, how long will it be before Musk appears on Mirotvorets, their quasi-official hit list for enemies of the state?

I have read Elon Musk’s opinion.
I am now awaiting opinions from
- Selena Gomez
- Aaron Judge, and
- That Mayhem Guy from the Allstate commercials.
Once they have weighed in I’ll let you know whose opinion is best.

“Losing” is a state, not an outcome. For real.

Building it up with what?

So NATO/EU are completely innocent in all this?

No of course not. They have a lot to do with the relationship between former Soviet republics and Russia. They have little to do with the invasion in and of itself.

And EU has no interest in Ukraine because of those resources?

Did you just describe EU?

Putin has said that he will all weapons at his disposal to defend Russia, and it considers the annexed areas of Ukraine to be integral part of Russia.
So if Ukraine is really successful, a likely result would be nuclear war.
Biden has said that the US will respond in “in-kind” response if chemical weapons are used in Ukraine, and he has refused to rule the first use of nuclear weapons.
When would Biden order a first use of nukes? The US is broadcasting plans to use Wiesbaden, Germany, as its command center for NATO missile strikes on Russia from Ukraine. What happens if Russian cruise missiles take out the command center after NATO attacks on Russian cities? Would Biden use nukes to respond?
If there is chemical release in Ukraine, will the US respond in kind with a chemical attack on Russian forces?
Of course there are many other scenarios. The basic problem is that Washington appears to be pushing escalation and threats instead of working for a diplomatic settlement. The longer this goes on, the greater the risk of nuclear war.
