I dunno about that. I was under the impression that any position that is in the line of succession must filled by someone who is valid to be president in case that unfortunately ever becomes necessary.
I’ll admit I’ve never studied that deeply. But that’s the impression I’ve got. They go all the way down to the Secretary of Housing and Development as presidential sucessors.
I don’t like it, but there are legitimate functions of government you’d never want to run like a business. Like the defense sector is a good example. Half of that ■■■■ (if not more) has absolutely zero profit, just sunken cost. If you ran the Defense department like a business, where profit is above all other considerations, you would totally dismantle the military because it literally cannot make money.
Unless you want them to be like the People’s Liberation Army was in the Cultural Revolution where no money was coming from the state (because Mao was turning China literally upside down from 1966-1976) so to fund R&D and pay soldiers they literally set up factories that soldiers worked at to produce things.
If the President were to resign or die, the Secretary of State is fourth in line of succession after the Vice President, the Speaker of the House, and the President pro tempore of the Senate.
Like I said. If it’s this easy to get leftist riled with rumors of something that will never happen imagine the fun when ICE starts deporting all those “new democrat voters” they let into the country illegally.
