Mahabad is in a Kurdish area in far western Iran. The idea that there are anti-government protests there is hardly surprising, nor does it necessarily mean much for the rest of the country.

Another factor is that the US government has been pushing regime change in Iran for decades, and Twitter is banned in Iran. What appears on Twitter is frequently just US propaganda.
