If that political hack is a member of congress, failure to turn over subpoenaed documents absolutely is a federal crime.
They should file contempt charges in federal court and let the judiciary make a ruling… I’m betting you will be disappointed in the outcome… Federal Judges are appointed for life for just these kinds of situations…

I bought a book by Levin on the Supreme Court and got about eight pages in when he claimed that Jefferson’s Democratic-Republicans were today’s Republican Party and sighed and pit it down. And I love right wing polemics.
The independent counsel was found to be constitutional and as that law lapsed more than a decade ago, special prosecutors don’t have nearly the, well, independence that the ICs had. It’s poppycock.
Or they know the elements to prosecution and none exist…
