All slavery is “chattel”.

The American Revolution and series of conflicts up to the end of the 1800’s makes no sense without understanding what was going on in Europe.
Like does the War of 1812 make much sense without tying it into the Napoleonic wars?
I don’t think that it does.

This is why I think that the subject is poorly taught in this country.
Now let us not be Pollyannas about the horrific racism that allowed for these conditions… oligarchs or not.
Even most of the abolitionists were not comfortable with a bunch of black people living freely doing whatever they wanted.
The topic of White Supremacy was a very real motivator of a lot of people’s opinions on the subject of slavery on both the pro slavery and abolitionists side.
There were very few people of the time who saw black people as equals. John Brown was one of those people and he was a religious nut who had a tendency to hit people he didn’t like with a broadsword.

Oddly enough, one of the most ardent fighters for equality among the races was a Florida Slaveowner named Zephaniah Kingsley.
He was anti-racist, he was way into race mixing… so much so that he had three African wives.
He was a lenient slaveowner who encouraged his slaves to hire themselves out to buy their own freedom.
He saw the American system of slavery as horrific ( as opposed to the Spanish form that he practiced) and thought the Northern Abolitionists to be hypocrits for their racism.
Like a lot of people from that time… he is a mess of contradictions. I doubt that anyone would learn about him in High School… he is a rather minor figure in American History. But the idea of an anti racist polygamous slaveowner is just too weird to know a little bit about.

In an elementary/middle school history falls under the social studies curriculum. Under that curriculum US History is just one component of that. My son for example spent a good amount of that time learning about the history and culture in foreign countries as well. In other words, there are time constraints and there are only so many topics that become part of a schools curriculum. Regarding slavery as I said already, that is a topic that long predates the founding and history of America and as such any teaching on slavery would best be done as I stated before. Regarding US history, slavery is a component that is pertinent to different aspects of US history, such as the Civil War and as such is best taught within that context.

Slavery is a topic that is pertinent to the compromise that brought about the Constitution, any real internal political fight in the first half of the 1800’s, the failure of Reconstruction and the next Century of Jim Crow into the Civil Rights era.
To relegate it to just the Civil War is not being realistic imo.

Everyone knows about the United States history. Being a minority all I see is you and the leftist wanting to keep the wounds bleeding for political gain. The country can never heal as long as we have people like you who want to keep the wound bleeding.

Again- what are you then wanting? To no longer teach these topics?
So we stop teaching about 9/11, Holocaust, Vietnam, etc?
There are still people who believe that certain people are not their equals. All you have to do is listen to leftist talk about trump supports, rural voters and anyone who is conservative. This is why I believe leftist have never left their racist past behind.

They are already taught. Have been for years.
Political preference is the same as racism?
Your post seems to conflate the two… which is interesting
Already taught. Maybe we should teach how your ancestors treated my people.
If it’s good for one side, then it’s good for the other.
If CRT and the anti-American garbage leftists what to shove down the throats of our children is taught in school, under the guise of history then those on the right can do the same damned thing! It’s called equality.
In her complaint, she argues that the curriculum spends weeks focusing on “very dark and divisive slivers of American history” without “highlighting the positive achievements, like unity and the overall improvement of the country.” <<
It’s a situation of that was then, this is now where the country moved forward from the dark times of slavery and the civil rights to a more united & civil union. The leftist CRT zealots what to drag the country back to pre-civil war sentiment & incivility which will not end well for the nation and both sides will end up in equal dystopia hell.
Somebody has to put the brakes on and start fighting fire with fire to end this madness, and ditto for the GW/CC crapola that is also a nation buster.

There is one thing that is true of Conservative internet culture.
-
anyone who is perceived to be “leftist” is responsible for anything any other “leftist” may say about those on the “right”
-
that that is a form of victimhood that is worthy to be brought up ad naseum to anyone who is perceived to be on the “left”
It is tiresome.
Please get a new act.

Oh- so you don’t want any change to the curriculum?
We are a great nation despite our past flaws.
The past flaws serve as a reminder that there is still work to do.
