I’d not include verses that will be used to keep slavery alive.
And if people used slavery anyway?
I would not exacerbate the situation by putting in verses that support slavery.
Which means you would not put any boundaries in place less that places you in a position where you might be accused of condoning slavery.
Their judgement is not based off of whether or not they heard of God or Jesus. It is based off of what is written in their hearts - the portion of the truth they had. The Old Testament is replete with examples. When God was issuing His judgment against the nations, only Israel was judged for what they did and didn’t do with the commands God gave them. None of the surrounding nations were judged for how they followed 613 mitzvot they never recieved or only heard about from the Jews. Sodom and Gomorrah were judged for their failure to follow a hospitality code that was fairly universal in that area at the time and not for a sexual purity code that was issued to Israelites decades later.
God is telling Christian slaves to submit to their cruel masters. If you truely care about the why then read the whole passage and not just the verse you want to take issue with.
I couldn’t ever study the Bible enough. However, I don’t see a lot of wiggle room for alternate explanations on direct statements, especially statements made by Jesus. If there is a contradiction by man regarding something he said, either he is lying or mistaken, or I am…
Here’s a couple direct statements for you:
" I am the way, the truth and the life, no man cometh unto the father but by me."
"For there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.’
“Except a man be born again, he can not see the kingdom of God.”
" He who hath the son, hath life. He who hath not the son, hath not life."
Wiggle around those if you choose…
What boundary? Telling slaves they must submit to their cruel masters is not a boundary I can get behind.
Ok. So someone that had never heard of God or Jesus can go to heaven?
I have. I’m not fine with it.
Create a global flood and kill everyone
On what basis do others reject this? Many dont believe in the “classical” hell and believe even atheists or Buddhists or Hindus etc can reach heaven
We have circled back around. What would you tell the slaves? Or, would you keep silent?
Already answered. I would not tell slaves to obey their cruel masters. That was a great gift to thousands of years of slaveowners.
Let me make this plain, God could have made the 11th commandment,
“Thou shalt not own other humans as property”
I can’t speak for other religions and what or why others reject Christ. I can tell you that Christianity is the only religion where God did the work himself. All other religions require man’s goodness to get them into their version of heaven. That we are good enough, or ever could become good enough is a lie of Satan.
I was referring to other Christians rejecting your view of hell / not reaching heaven
