Former Big Apple Mayor and gun-control activist Michael Bloomberg announced Wednesday his plan to donate at least $80 million to help the Democratic Party retake control of Congress this fall.

According to the New York Post, the left-leaning philanthropist and business mogul slammed Republican leadership in a written statement; claiming they’ve failed on “guns and climate change.”

“I’ve never thought that the public is well-served when one party is entirely out of power, and I think the past year and half has been evidence of that,” said the former mayor.

“[Republicans] have done little to reach across the aisle to craft bipartisan solutions - not only on guns and climate change, but also on jobs, immigration, health care, and infrastructure,” he added.

“Bloomberg’s expected to bankroll ads on television, online and through the mail for Democrats in more than a dozen congressional races, especially in suburban areas where President Trump’s support is softest,” writes the Post.

Democratic candidates need to flip at least 23 seats this November to take control of the House of Representatives.
