New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio launched a new voter registration drive this week, making a major push in the city’s jails to have inmates sign-up and have their absentee ballots cast ahead of the 2018 midterm elections.
According to the Wall Street Journal, eligible inmates will now be able to register while incarcerated and have their official ballots picked-up by city officials during the highly-contested midterms.

“In New York, the goal is to increase voter participation and is part of a larger effort, dubbed DemocracyNYC, that also seeks to change state law to allow same-day voter registration,” adds the author.
