President Trump ordered the closure of the Palestine Liberation Organization’s offices in the nation’s capital Monday; citing stalled peace talks with their Israeli counterparts in the ongoing Mideast peace process.
“President Donald Trump is closing the Palestine Liberation Organization’s mission in Washington, the latest U.S. blow against the Palestinians and an international court during the stalled Mideast peace process,” writes the Associated Press.
The move comes after Palestinian officials urged the International Criminal Court to prosecute Israeli officials for “war crimes” throughout the region.
PLO chief negotiator Saeb Erekat slammed the Trump administration’s decision to close the offices; accusing the White House of protecting Israeli “war criminals” and “destroying the two-state solution.”
“These people have decided to stand on the wrong side of history by protecting war criminals and destroying the two-state solution,” he said. “I told them if you are worried about courts, you should stop aiding and abetting crimes.”
