Mexico Agreed to Take Border Actions Months Before Trump Announced Tariff Deal

Friday’s joint declaration says Mexico agreed to the “deployment of its National Guard throughout Mexico, giving priority to its southern border.” But the Mexican government had already pledged to do that in March during secret talks in Miami between Kirstjen Nielsen, then the secretary of homeland security, and Olga Sanchez, the Mexican secretary of the interior, the officials said.

So, the usual Trump approach- create chaos with all of his tariff threats, and then back off. My question is: DId he do this whole thing as theater, knowing that Mexico had already reached a favorable agreement, OR does he have no idea what is going on?

That sounds about right

Either answer is plausible.

Got it from a source not behind a paywall?

Then why haven’t they acted sooner then?

From what I’m hearing its because the national guard in Mexico was just recently formed

TheHill.com has it

Who are you hearing that from?

Inside big government secret sources

If what NYSlime says is correct, it seems Mexico wasn’t holding up there end of bargain. And it taken the threat of tariffs to force their hands.

There go sneaks…

"MEXICO CITY — Mexico’s Congress on Thursday approved the creation of a 60,000-member National Guard to tackle the nation’s public security crisis, a force that President Andrés Manuel López Obrador has made a cornerstone of his plan to confront organized crime and curb soaring violence.

The vote capped months of legislative wrangling over the nature of the force and who would control it, with human-rights activists and civil society groups lobbying fiercely to limit the military’s influence on it and warning it could represent the further militarization of policing in Mexico."

Truth is a 5% tariff on Mexican imports would be the definition of cutting off your nose to spite your face.

It’s stupid, Mexico is our largest trading partner business and individuals would feel an immediate impact.

But Trump does love a good show

Either the Times is lying (quite likely) or as you say Mexico didn’t hold up their end of the bargain until the tariffs came into play.

Once again we find out that Trump is lying. But hey to some posters the fact that Trump lies all the time is proof that he is the most honest President of all time!

Once again the Times are preying on gullible, the meek to push their propaganda.
