Kind of funny but interesting.
Iām five miles down a one lane country lane, barely a two track and what do I find?
What is obviously a āhighway freight truckā of a national freight hauling company that runs through here regularly, obviously this guy is nine kinds of lost about 10pm or so tonight.
I pull up beside him in the bar ditch thinking this guy is either drunk, high or his GPS has just really sent him into hell.
I ask if heās lost, broke down etc and heās talking back in something that only slightly resembles English with an obvious French/African.
The guy is in a complete panic, heās a new immigrant who just got his CDL and this is his first job and aside from being afraid of getting fired if he wrecks the truck heās too scared of all our things around here that bite and eat people.
Thereās a cattle yard about a quarter mile back and nothing but a dead end five miles ahead so I ask him if he can back up that far and make a ninety degree blind turn backing up in the dark.
Well of course he canāt and doesnāt even want to try so I offer to do it for him if heāll drive my truck and give me some light to see the turn.
Ten minutes later weāre done, I back it in and then because the exit is really narrow with a deep ditch and steep sides I also pull it back out on the road and then lead him back to the highway.
You never saw a nicer, more appreciative guy. Iād hold the door open for more like these two anytime.
