Maryland Gerrymandering

not according to the picture niether the 6th nor 8th appear to be

point being, your commision gerrymandered them to protect incumbents

Im not sure gerrymandering is necessarily wrong, but it does deserve scrutiny.

Look at the congressional district for Bobby Scott in Virginia.

They carved out pretty much just the black areas of 5 different cities to get his district. Part of me says it is wrong and the area should all be together. But if the area was all together, many minorities would not have representation because they dont have the numbers to take the district.

hence it is gerrymandering that insures minority representation.

Sure didn’t help the incumbents.

Decade started out with 6 republicans and ended with 2.

And there’s an effort underway in Maryland to gerrymander the lone republican’s district so there won’t be a single Republican in that state.

All major democrat players in Maryland are on board with it too. It’s going to happen and Dems don’t care.

outcomes are not gaurenteed.

Yep they stuck democratic Dover in the 7th cause it was safely Republican (we used to be in the 11th in the old map)

Guess it wasn’t so safe as the incumbent when down in flames during the 2018 bloodbath.

So much for protection.

If you really want to see gerrymandering poetry in motion look at the new North Carolina map when it comes out.

Their tricks (splitting us Asheville) gives us the great congressperson Madison cawthone.

No comment about Maryland? Didn’t think so. Thanks.

Nothing on the current Maryland map?

Okay I open the floor up to you, what Republican Region (or city) does the Maryland split up.

Allan

There were two in office at the time: brand-new Andy Harris on Maryland’s Eastern Shore, and Roscoe Bartlett in rural Western Maryland. As former governor Martin O’Malley (D) later admitted in federal court, Democrats ultimately decided just to go after Bartlett, if only because it was easier. And their plan worked: A Republican has not won that seat since.

“Democrats’ calculus for holding onto the House in 2022 depends on Maryland,” said Dave Wasserman, a redistricting analyst and U.S. House editor at Cook Political Report.

Citing private conversations with Democrats involved in Maryland’s redistricting strategy, Wasserman said he thought it was not just possible, but likely, that Democrats could go for the 8-0 shutout.

I predict that democrats will wipe out any Republican influence in Maryland to the cheers of democrats across the country.

Federally mandated.

Little bit of good news out of MD… not sure it will really mean much though.

Bye bye all republicans from Maryland.

Wow… wasn’t expecting that. Dems will probably win their appeal and nothing will change.

the majority of the appellate was appointed by hogan. of course he’s limitted in his appointments by whomever the democrats put on the list, but there is hope

Years later…

Yeah, but we gon do it anyway. And who better to lead the group than the dimocrat partisan U.S. Senator from MD??
