you continuously ignore what I’ve said, don’t worry, we know why. its not the time that’s an issue.

And you continually ignore that the Constitution specifically empowers Congress to pass legislation impacting the timing of choosing electors.

IF the state chooses to use a general vote to choose electors via mail in voting, the Congress is fully empowered to prevent the state legislature from changing that timing after the fact as Trump wants them to do. I.e. hold and election to choose electors effective November 3rd, Trump doesn’t like the results, so after the fact the state legislature ignores the eleciton and choose different electors AFTER November 3rd.

That is ALL about timing.

There’s an easy solution to postal problem voting. Just vote in person.

I did in the primaries and will do so again in about 3 weeks. It was easy peasy.

Everybody knows this is about the dems stealing the election.

I say if the ballots aren’t in on election day then they should not count.

l voted for 20 years via mail in ballot. Easy peasy.

Yep, the horror, letting people vote and when you loose call it “stealing the election”.

Here is an idea, if Trump wants to win get more people to vote for him instead of Biden.

That’s nice.

Not reality, but you can dream. Face it, mail in ballots in the possession of the USPS on November 3rd and given to election officials in the next couple of days will be counted in many states.

complete ■■■■■■■■■ niether the post office nor post office drop boxes are polling places and postal workers are not poll workers. your fantasy would make them so and congress has no such authority. allowing the convenience of mail in balloting and conscripting postal workers as polling agents are not the same thing. it is not up to your local mail carrier to ensure your vote goes in by 8PM and it shouldn’t be. it is not up to your local postmaster to close the polls and it shouldn’t be. dropping a ballot in a drop box isn’t “voting”, its mailing. voting is what happens when its delivered to the polling place.

  1. No it doesn’t make mail boxes polling places. It is a means of logistical transportation that the USPS is involved in (when a state chooses to have mail in voting).

  2. Agreed, postal workers are not poll workers. They have nothing to do with processing the vote. They fill a transportation function under the control of Congress.

  3. I fully agree, it is not up to the mail carrier to ensure a ballot is cast by the close of polls. They are responsible for collecting mail from mail boxes, transporting it, and delivering it in a timely and secure manner.

  4. Postmasters don’t close polls, they are in charge of mail carriers that collect mail.

  5. Actually the vote has occurred when the ballot envelop is sealed and it’s turned over to the USPS for transpiration, at that point it is a valid vote. Counting is what happens when its delivered to election officials.

all of that is fantasy ■■■■■■■■■

using your “logic” or lack of it, if i leave my house at 8PM to go vote. it doesn’t matter what time I get to the polling place, I’ve voted as soon as I left home and its just “transportation” of the vote after that. collecting votes is a part of processing, postal workers don’t collect votes, they collect mail. You would have postal workers collecting votes frpm mailboxes and ensuring people who may be in line areallowed to vote (as long as its filled out before 8PM)… thats not their job. And finally, no. A vote is not valid until a poll worker looks at it and ensures its valid. until then, its just mail. so my answer is not just no, but hell ■■■■■■■ no. if my chosen mode of transportation has to get my vote into the polling station by 8PM, everybodies should. if you choose a slower method, plan for it.

That logic is - well - really poor.

Just applying the same rules at mail box that apply to voting in person. Most places if you are in line to vote, you get to vote even if the end time arrives. But pick up mail only after in-person voting is suspended, I could go with that.

Now a vote not being “valid” until a poll worker looks at it is complete horse hockey. I’ve been voting for 40 years and not one, NOT ONCE has a poll worker got to (or asked to) look at my ballot to determine validity.

Where are you from that poll workers get to review your vote?

the poll worker must check absentee ballots. not the vote itself, but the secure envelope it comes in. they make sure its filled out correctly and that the signature matches the one on file. just as poll workers check the voting rolls when you vote in person. but guess what, you haven’t actually voted yet. you’ve voted, once you enter your vote for tabulation. if giving your vote to the mailman is enough to have “voted” so is giving it to the dog catcher, neither is a poll worker.

that is what’s wrong with this whole line of thought and this and other court decisions. it turns postal workers into de facto poll workers which they are not. the post office isn’t responsible for ensuring your vote gets to the polling place on time any more than the city bus driver is if you take public transportation to the polling place. thats your responsibility. and if you choose to vote by mail its up to you to ensure you mail your ballot in time for it to arive at the polling station in time to be counted just as it would be your responsibility to take an earlier bus. the post office delivers mail, and they should be required to do nothing more than their normal job with normal care with it no matter what mail it is (depending of course on the class you pay for).
