French president Macron said during an interview today that Europe needs to spend more on it’s own defense! See, Trump was right!.. Oh, he also said that the spending should be on European military hardware… Sorry, Boeing, Raytheon, General Dynamics, etc.

Yep… that was an argument that was made on the old board, that Europe would spend more on US armaments and I asked why would they… they have their own companies to use their tax dollars for.
That thread went on a while.

But on a serious note, good for them. Not because I’m a panty bunched Trumper who wants to cast off Europe. But because if the current admin is so douchey that they want to piss off our European allies then I applaud Europe in telling the US to go ■■■■ themselves.

I also like Macron had to say about Nationalists.
“Patriotism is the exact opposite of nationalism: nationalism is a betrayal of patriotism,” Macron said in a 20-minute address delivered from under the Arc de Triomphe to mark the 100th anniversary of the end of World War One.
“By pursuing our own interests first, with no regard to others’, we erase the very thing that a nation holds most precious, that which gives it life and makes it great: its moral values.”

Not surprised I mean now that the EU witnessed that any nut in our country can become president and put our alliances into question…
It also cracks me up that Trumpist complain so much at what we spend to “defend” other nations. We dont do it for “free” we get Military base installations around the world and have a global military reach unlike any other country.
Because we wanted it so…
Last I checked we dont have foreign military bases in the US…
As well they should. Europe and European nations have individually and collectively the means to defend themselves and have had the means since 1970. They prefer to let the US taxpayer fund their defense which allows for them to finance their generous social welfare programs.
Bring the boys back home.

It is very hard to advance in rank without troops actively engaged somewhere, even if it is in the whorehouses of Kaiserlautern, Baumholder, Yokosuka, Apra, Okinawa etc.The more commands, the more senior officers are needed to command them. The pentagon will always be opposed to bringing the boys home. Job and advancement security.
