If Steph Curry doesn’t like his neighbors he can do what the rest of us can do: move or shut up. Or I guess he could spend more time in one of his other homes.

I highlighted the part I think is most relevant, from your cut-and-paste.
How much do you think those proposed units are going to sell for?
No, I expect regulations to apply to everybody.

No, it isn’t. What are you talking about? No one has recieved any “special treatment.”
I swear, if you guys actually read the stories you post about, you’d save yourselves so much embarassment.

Oh. I’m sorry. I missed the part where you made up that the apartments would sell for $3M each.
Just a guess - home prices in Atherton average out to about $2,000 a square foot.
But maybe you’re right - maybe they’d be some 500-sq-ft studios as cheap as $1M.

Dude, I fully acknowledge that celebrities need their privacy and safety. Obviously, they do.
What I do not concede is that the rest of us have to plan our life decisions around theirs.
By all means, if one desires privacy and safety (which btw is not limited to those who are famous), one can plan their living situation around that - plenty of ways to do that without impacting anyone else.

He did that.
And now, they wanna build a high rise overlooking his backyard and looking into his windows.
Maybe he has a point.

That mostly applies to this subject …which I can understand…I do not agree, and i think it is hypocritical.
Most other things the cons think of regarding “coastal elites” is BS.

LOL, obviously not sufficiently.
It’s like if I am a celebrity and I choose to fly commercial (better yet, coach on commercial) - I can demand the flight attendants to clear every row next to me - because you know, I am a celebrity therefore I have super-duper important security needs, other passengers be damned.
Or I can just fly jet.

It is a state directed development, which started with the local community submitting an inventory of all undeveloped land available within the community for the purpose of expanding affordable housing. Reading some of the local stories would have found the announcements by the city that they were holding hearings on the “Housing element” which they would then submit to the CHD for approval. The CHD site will tell you everything you need to know about the purpose of Housing Elements to increase affordable housing. everywhere in California. If you want to know what CHD will mandate the cost of living in the property will cost, you should check with them.
What is actually a shame here is that lack of affordable housing disproportionately affects BIPOC families and individuals, yet a famous BIPOC couple in the community doesn’t want it near them.

From the article. Read it.
“Other local heavyweights…have previously lobbied against the introduction of more affordable housing into the area.”

Indeed.
I doubt I could afford to live anywhere in Atherton. Maybe a storage unit.

Does he own the ranch they want to build the tenement on?

Better hope that storage unit isn’t within a football field of Steph’s house
Sure. Now let us extend that analogy so it matches what is happening here.
Celebrity gets his jet, and after he boards and gets settled, 20 more people board the jet and buckle themselves in.
Anyway, like I say, I’m not advocating for him, but there’s more to this than “YAH, stupid libs!!”

I have posted numerous times regarding the need to reform overly restrictive zoning laws.
Atherton is example #1.
Prior to the California Legislature banning R-1 zoning, Atherton had a minimum lot size of 1 acre and other requirements making it literally impossible to build ANY new housing.
So frankly, I hope they get ■■■■■■■ socked with the highest possible density development.

That’s a poor analogy - unless you’re saying that this development is being built on private property owned by others. In which case - yeah, I’m with Steph.

Non rich people ask for special treatment as well.
Regarding Atherton…In December 2022, Atherton home prices were up 17.4% compared to last year, selling for a median price of $8.2M.
