Rarely and wild game cannot be sold commercially.

Hunters and sport fisherman tend to be pretty fastidious in the care of the meat they take from the field to the kitchen and people who rely on wild game know when it is safe to be taken and how to handle it when they do.

I’ve grown up eating frog legs. Batter, fry, dip in butter. Seriously good eats.

I’ve never had any of the above (except rattle snake which was okay). I think if someone needs to eat to survive they wouldn’t turn their nose up at any source of food.

People ask what does it taste like…chick but lot tender with almost shrimp/lobster texture. And frog logs are really healthy, very rich in protein and omega 3 which is healthy.

Rabbit is very healthy for those with heart disease since they’re very high in protein.

Excellent healthy food source.

Rattlesnake is like eating Buffalo Carp or Gar.

It’s ok but by the time you bone it all out you’re in a calorie deficit!

Cotton tail, snowshoe etc killed at the right time of year and prepared right are delicacies.

I’d say that’s pretty accurate.

The trouble is you gotta gig a slew of them to make a meal, kinda like dove.

We used to shoot bullfrogs with .22 pistols floating the creeks and rivers at night spotlighting.

You could bag a bunch in just a few hours while running trot lines and it would make for quite a feed the next day.

I’ve heard worse, usually about southerners being racist. Ironically enough, those with the least to say about us with regards to racism are those we’re supposedly so racist against—non white peoples.

With regards to cuisine, there are indigenous tribes like the Miccosukee (Seminole) who make use of such creatures as frog (the legs) and alligator :crocodile: (damn good) in their cuisine:

Saw a recipe once for Miccosukee Fried Gator on one indigenous cooking website that I can’t seem to find, & it’s a bit unnerving because there were some good recipes.

I have heard of cooking with rattlesnake, but more in the southwest:

I won’t say anyone is out on the highway grabbing road kill, but animals like rabbit, snake, frog, even knew one butcher shop that sold meat like ostrich in one neighborhood are prepared & consumed.

Wild bunnies 2 to 3 weeks after a hard frost.

Domestic bunnies any time. :wink:

Compliance is a direct result of the perceived threat. If 50% of the people that caught Covid dropped dead, you wouldn’t have to remind people to socially distance. Of course people can’t agree on things when you have many that believe the hysteria doesn’t match the threat.

I’m not disparaging eating of wild animals. People have to eat whatever they catch when there is no Whole Foods around. How do poor people in those countries know what to eat and not eat? So bats and pangolin are bad. How about wombats? Gator? Lizards?

Btw: pangolins are the cutest and most gentle looking animal. Need to make sure they don’t become extinct.
