I would still have a problem with a hug but the issue was he didn’t “black hand shake” the other white guys… only me.

I have no bought about this… although I did not know the political ideology of the guy who hugged me… in the past it was usually liberal white men (not women) who do it.
The whole “wow you are articulate” type comments mostly came from conservative men.
Women are more likely to want to touch my kids hair and say “wow it’s so thick” or with my daughter try to suggest that her hair is too “oily” and needs to be washed.
Vernon Franklin!!!
Winds up making $6.45/hour at the car wash…
You know, being an old fool from the old school I have to “smh” at how the workplace has gone straight to ■■■■■
I’ve been retired for almost 5 years and do a bus driving gig for something to do.
I worked in the industrial service industry and ran a contract shipyard repair project for the DHS/ USCG for 8 years up to my retirement. I had black, brown , white and Indo men working for us. Not everyone is perfect but these boys worked their arses off for their pay. They got along well and nobody got any preferential treatment. My last day they threw an impromptu celebration; the Commandant and a couple of Coastie engineers I worked with showed up.
Gimme Old school workplace anyway.

What you described is “white guilt” and them trying to go the extra mile to show they are not racist.

I used to try to teach people how to dap properly, but I stopped when I realized they were using it for stuff like this lol.

You seem to want it both ways. You want to be treated like everyone else (the White guys) yet you also want your blackness to be acknowledged and respected. But when a white person does that, you get offended. Go figure.

He didn’t know me. He assumed.
Don’t assume because I am black

I’m sorry that happened, too.
“Gimme old school workplace anyway.”
Me, too.
New school workplace creates divisions between different peoples that don’t exist—all of this training on such topics as diversity and micro agression—and unities that don’t exist—separate groups for women, GLBTQ, Asian descended etc.
There are gay adults who regard transitioning and non-binary, for instance, as bizarre, and there are differences between Asian, Latin American and African societies where individuals from different societies may not get along.
The nondiscrimination clause and taking causes like diversity and ethnic pride outside the job are far superior to the social justice emphasizing workplace of recent years.

You are right Tommy. White men dapping is cultural appropriation. Like black girls straightening their hair.

Hold on now. What about assuming you were oppressed, held back, a victim?
Don’t give all the white guys regular handshakes and then give the black dude a pound-up with a finger-snap shake and a half hug. It’s not hard.
It’s traitism. People are identifying with and capitalizing on traits they were born with. No actual achievements are necessary.
Instead of actually having a purpose, now you can just say “I’m a bi Latino vegan” and that covers your accomplishments.

Been there nearly 8 years now. I highly recommend it.
We travel a little and stay sort of busy with this and that. Things that we choose not an employer.
Glad that I don’t have to put up with the BS that seems to be getting rampant in the work place these days.

What would you be saying if it was the other way around? That is with a black guy greeting a mixed group of backs and whites?
