Did you just make that number up? That number isn’t close to being right. The highest it ever got before Obama was President was 14,198 on Oct 9, 2007.

I get that, and certainly tariffs aren’t the only problem farmers face, but they aren’t helping either.

Right. TDS libs.
He’ll still win reelection. And TDS-ers will continue setting their hair on fire.
WuWei
225
Agreed, for now. I sincerely hope they can get a deal done soon. In the meantime, are your neighbors getting help from centgov? It seems it is available.
WuWei

I just heard on NBC that China has threatened to retaliate if Trump adds to the tariffs.
If they do, who is paying for their tariffs?
Oryx
227
Yes, me too.
I’ve talked to a couple neighbors who may be eligible for aid, but they’re unhappy about having to take it. I have a corn-growing neighbor who spends more time in the capital lobbying for ethanol than he does in his field, and he’s well-prepared to deal with this sort of thing. Others not so much.
That all depends on whether they buy the products with new tariffs or switch to a new supplier like they did with Soybeans. If they don’t Chinese consumers pay but if they do then it’s American farmers "paying’ with an unsold harvest
WuWei
229
Tell them to take it. Centgov is fighting a battle on their behalf, it’s ok to bandage the wounds and keep the wounded in the fight in the meantime.
WuWei

How is it any different for us?
For a lot of the products there is no other supplier that can be our demands
WuWei
232
Like what? What does China make that nobody else can? Come on man.
You ever see somebody not step up when there is a profit to be made?
WuWei

@Oryx
How do US farmers get access to the Chinese markets and how do they compete with other country’s farmers?
Even better now that Obama’s gone and Hillary was a speed bump.
Precious metals. Can’t step up with what doesn’t exist
WuWei
236
They don’t make precious metals. What do they have we can’t get somewhere else? “Precious metals” don’t respect borders either.

And then there’s another fly in the ointment, before the trade war started, all these companies got tax breaks, did they not? Ammo in the magazines.
Did they pass it on to their customers, or do they have ammo in reserve if it gets worse?
That is irrelevant to the discussion of trade and tariffs. It’s still a product we cannot get elsewhere whether it’s “made” or not.
Right. A vast amount of the country, trump is very unpopular.
It’s a fact and no amount of “TDS” dog whistles can eliminate that fact.

What are they and why do we need them?
The economy got better in spite of Obama not because of him.
The feds propped him up to a large degree by keeping the interest rates super low and not raising them to amount to anything.
Since Trump hit office they raised them 7 times i believe. If they had done so under Obama we would have landed squarely back in a serious recession.
They helped Obama and have mostly hindered Trump.
